Since 2005

Leverage Dance Theater has produced an extensive offering of educational programs that we refer to as Leveraged Learning. Composed primarily of arts-integrated programming, Leverage uses dance and creative movement to support traditional classroom curriculum and academic learning.

These programs are available for booking both in and out of school as:

• performances (45-60 minutes)

• workshops (60-90 minutes)

• multi-session residencies (3-10 sessions)

Moving Through Math Grades: K-4 Format: Performance, Workshop, Residency
Our signature program, this 50-minute, interactive lecture-demonstration is a fun and lively program that uses music and dance to bring math and geometry to life. The performance catalyzes children’s capacity to grasp mathematical concepts by simultaneously stimulating visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning while also introducing fundamental elements of dance art. Customized to be appropriate to the age and grade of the audience, concepts covered include lines, curves, symmetry, congruency, parallel lines, angles, pattern recognition, basic characteristics of polygons, addition and subtraction, multiplication and sometimes division. A single workshop, multi-day or multi-week residency which allows children the opportunity to dance through and explore the concepts more thoroughly is also available. Classroom teachers can choose the concepts to be emphasized during a workshop or residency to match grade level expectations and the time of year the program is presented in the classroom.

Moving With Science Grades: 3-8 Format: Performance, Workshop, Residency

Students learn from the team of dancers how scientific principles affect human movement in this performance. Students will learn about the Laws of Motion as they watch dancers perform a series of leaps, turns, and lifts, and discover how physics can be applied to accomplish seemingly impossible feats.
